Get all the training you need to run a successful pub business.

When you first become a pub licensee or operator, it may seem a little overwhelming. That’s why Star Pubs offer training programmes to everyone who takes on a pub with us. 

We’ll help you get set up, make progress and build on your success. We also give you access to continued support and industry-leading coaching that allows you to tap into our knowledge and keep you moving forward. 

 

Training and support when you need it

Our programme of training and business support has been designed to help all licensees and their staff, from first timers to experienced entrepreneurs, to make the most of every opportunity offered by their new pub business.

Innside Knowledge: Offering a comprehensive online induction workshop that covers:

  • An introduction to Star Pubs and the wider HEINEKEN business.
  • Compare and contrast your ideas with those of other licensees.
  • Examine and evaluate your management style.
  • Meet new suppliers who can provide services for your business.
  • Revise and clarify details of your business plan.
  • Devise an implementation strategy for your business plan.

At Innside Knowledge, you’ll also learn about:

  • Marketing and promotions
  • Licences and legal obligations
  • Finance and insurance
  • Cellar management
  • Creating a food offer
  • Employing staff
  • Health, safety and security
  • Growing your business

Our Just Add Knowledge training programme (part of Just Add Talent) has been recognised with a 'Best Training Programme' award from the BII NITAs 2022 ceremony which acknowledges our progress in creating a blended and supportive learning programme made up of two immersive stages.

Stage One is now an intensive virtual learning process that allows for dual assessment by both candidates and assessors – which firmly places you at the heart of this training.

Stage Two offers you a further opportunity to cement this learning with a residential, classroom training programme that follows on from hands-on, in-outlet training.

As part of our Just Add Talent Management Agreement, we’ll support you with:

  • Investment and food training
  • Financial and health and safety guidance
  • A Business Development Manager
  • The latest technology, including electronic point of sale, compliance and back-of-house management systems
  • Marketing Support, including help with websites, social media, point of sale, retail calendars and glassware

Our Management Agreement could be perfect for you

At Star Pubs, Just Add Talent is our Management Agreement, which means you’re responsible for delivering the offer and employing the staff to help you achieve your goals. We provide the menus, and the fantastic brands and cover many of your pub running costs, including utilities, business rates and marketing. This gives you time to concentrate on the important stuff - executing a superb retail offer and employing and managing your staff.

Going beyond induction training

We don’t stop at the start. We want to give you training and support in the long term too. That’s why we offer:

Cellar Services: Once you take over a pub – and within the first few weeks – our in-field technicians, called Innserve, will arrange to visit you for an in-depth training session for you and your staff on line cleaning and beer quality. It’s tailored specifically to your pub, and as part of this, we can also offer training from Cask Marque too. We also offer SmartDispense® which is not only a great step towards a more sustainable operation but also includes a cellar servicing, line cleaning and support package that’s built around your specific needs.

Training: We take your success seriously. We offer support and training to suit all needs, this ranges from bitesize online courses and webinars to in-depth, face-to-face training, Fount of Knowledge workshops and E-Learning courses on a vast range of topics, so you can continue your training and keep making progress.
