The Pint Pot in Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield, has closed for a £183,000 upgrade by Heineken-owned Star Pubs. The popular pub will reopen under new management on 30th April as a family-friendly local, with a focus on sports, entertainment, and community events.
Funds are being spent on improving the sports facilities in time for the World Cup. Changes will include a new halo-lit darts board with electronic scoring, a new pool table with Wi-Fi-enabled payment, five new high-definition TVs, and a state-of-the-art AV system showing Sky and TNT Sports.
The interior layout will feature a main open-plan bar and lounge area, alongside a separate sports room with a pool table and drinks shelving. New high ‘poseur’-style tables and stools, along with a new darts oche, are being installed in the bar, while the lounge area will offer relaxed mid-height seating.
A more contemporary, smarter décor will update The Pint Pot and create a fresher, more inviting environment for customers. The top-to-toe redecoration will include an overhaul of the bar counter and back bar, feature wallpaper to revitalise the lounge area, and upgrades to the lighting, soft furnishings, bric-a-brac, and flooring.
The exterior of the pub will be redecorated in deep blue and cream, with new signage to give it a smarter appearance. There will be seating at the front for 28 people, with A-frame tables, benches, and umbrellas.
The Pint Pot will offer a wide range of lagers, ciders, ales, spirits, soft drinks, and more.
As part of the refurbishment, the latest dispense technology is being installed to improve the quality and consistency of draught beer and cider. The unique cooling technology and line insulation from keg to tap are 20% more energy efficient than standard systems, keeping drinks colder.
Entertainment will include a regular quiz, live sports, darts and pool, as well as live music acts at weekends and seasonal celebrations.
The changes will see publican Angela Constable and her husband John move from Birmingham to run The Pint Pot on behalf of Star Pubs, with the aim of creating a family- and dog-friendly local with a welcoming atmosphere.
Angela grew up in and around pubs, as her parents and sister ran pubs. Most recently, she worked in the NHS as a senior ward co-ordinator, while John worked at Jaguar Land Rover.
Angela said: “John and I are really looking forward to meeting regulars and becoming part of the Mere Green community. We can’t wait to open the doors at the end of April, introduce ourselves, and show customers their new-look local. We want the pub to be somewhere everyone can relax and enjoy themselves.
“We’d love it if local groups, clubs, and teams used The Pint Pot for get-togethers, including post-match gatherings, and we’ll be looking to host charity fundraisers and themed nights once we’re settled in.
“John already knows Sutton Coldfield quite well, as he plays in a band and has performed at gigs here many times in the past.”
Craig Foweather, Star Pubs Investment Manager, said: “We’re delighted to be upgrading The Pint Pot, building on its popularity and giving residents nicer surroundings in which to relax and enjoy themselves. The upgraded sports facilities, new AV system, facelift, and a great schedule of entertainment will broaden The Pint Pot’s appeal.
“We know how important it is to have a great local on your doorstep, so we are working flat out to reopen it as soon as possible in time for a great bank holiday weekend.”
