£450,000 Investment Planned For Merseyside Pub

A £450,000 refurbishment is planned to be carried out this year for a Merseyside pub that has been closed for nearly two years.

The Millstone on Mill Lane in Newton-le-Willows would see a major revamp funded by Heineken-owned Star Pubs & Bars.

Once a licensee has been found for the Merseyside pub, work is set to begin on the building to transform it into a “great quality pub” by “significantly expanding” its inside and outside space.

The Millstone's exterior would be redecorated with new paintwork, signage and lighting. The pub would see a café-style seating area at the front and a 25-seater patio that's heated and covered at the side.

The pub’s large south-facing garden would also be transformed with new planting and furniture.

Star Pubs & Bars’ area manager, David O’Brien, says the inside of The Millstone would give the pub “the wow factor”. It would be opened up and a large extension added, more than doubling its capacity and creating room for a dining section.

The new decor will be “stylish” and “contemporary”, incorporating wood floors, exposed brickwork and booth seating, as well as feature lighting and artwork.

New bi-fold doors would be fitted to bring in light, and other planned improvements include a kitchen refit, a barista-style coffee machine and an upgrade of the four-bedroom licensee flat above The Millstone.

David O’Brien added: “We are keen to give The Millstone a new lease of life and secure the long-term future of a prominent Newtown-le-Willows pub. All we need to proceed is the right licensee. The Millstone will be completely different once the works are completed and bring a premium experience to the town’s pub scene.

“With all the regeneration projects in the pipeline for Newtown-le-Willows, it’s a fantastic opportunity for an experienced operator wanting a high-profile pub in a prime location.”
