The Gun Opens with a Bang

Gun Spitalfields

This week marks the official re-opening of The Gun pub in Spitalfields, following completion of a major investment project, in partnership with the East London Pub Co.

Spitalfields has undergone huge transformation over the last 15 years. The historic London Fruit and Wool Exchange in the heart of the East End, is now a modern mixed-use development, meeting the demands of the UK’s business and financial centre; whilst adding more housing and retaining its vibrant character.

Not only has The Gun been transformed into a modern pub, it has also created valuable office space for local businesses. The pub has a contemporary atmosphere, serving great quality food, with a large taproom-style bar and an open cellar at the back.

Named after the Henry VIII’s artillery ground which was located in the area, The Gun has been an integral part of the life and personality of Spitalfields Market since it opened in 1929.  Star Pubs & Bars and the East London Pub Co., have created a contemporary pub which is sympathetic to the surrounding buildings and makes an important contribution to the character of the Conservation Area.

Patrick Frawley, founder and owner of East London Pub Co., said:

The Gun is one of four venues under the East London Pub Co. portfolio and really demonstrates our ethos across all destinations, where we deliver great individual pubs rooted in the heart of communities. HEINEKEN has allowed us to bring our vision to life, where we are offering quality food and drink, with incredible service in an exceptional environment.”

The redevelopment of The Gun is part Star Pubs’ ongoing pub investment programme, which has already seen over £140 million invested across the Star Pubs & Bars estate since 2014, regenerating pubs across the UK to create much-loved social hubs and provide employment for local people. In 2018 alone, 180 pubs were regenerated across the UK, creating 1,000 jobs.
