Widdrington Inn benefits from £140k refurbishment

The Widdrington Inn has reopened following a £140k joint refurbishment between ourselves and licensees, Rachel and Daniel Curtis, to bring the pub into the 21st century. It now has a comfy and cosy ambience with wooden panelling, an abundance of greens and earthy colours, country tweed upholstery as well as new carpeting, and slate and wooden flooring. The new look is classic country pub with a 21st century touch. As a result of the refurbishment, part of the bar area has been reconfigured to create a multi-functional lounge/ dining area. The number of covers at the pub has also increased by 25% to 104.

Prior to taking on The Widdrington Inn where he is the chef, Daniel worked as a Sous chef at Doxford Hall, which has 2 AA rosettes.

Rachel said of the refurbishment: “It’s transformed the pub. We have a loyal following, but that was because of the food and the friendly service we provide. It’s all come together now. The food, drink, service and the pub itself are all the same standard.

“Customers absolutely love the new look, as do we. We’ve been really busy since we reopened.  We’re now gearing up for Christmas, which will be fantastic this year.”

Lawson Mountstevens, Managing Director of Star Pubs & Bars said: “Rachel and Daniel have done a great job building a reputation for good food in-spite of the tired look of the pub. HEINEKEN is a passionate supporter of the great British pub and is investing in pubs like The Widdrington Inn to ensure they deliver excellent quality, attract customers and thrive at the heart of their communities for years to come. Business had plateaued due to the limitations of the pub interior. The refurbishment has created more space for diners and a comfortable, inviting interior, so Rachel and Daniel can now grow their business further.”
