The White Bull in Gisburn celebrates re-opening in time for Christmas

White Bull - Dec 5

Nigel Evans, MP and local campaigner David Waters joined award winning chef, Simon Salt and Star Pubs & Bars BDM, Phil McWilliam, to celebrate the re-opening of The White Bull, Gisburn’s only pub, which had been closed for over a year while planning permission was sought for its refurbishment.

Nigel Evans pulled the first pint at the pub which opens its doors to the public on 10th December.  The re-opening of the pub has been much anticipated in the local community with online messages and Christmas bookings already being made.

Says Simon:  “We’re thrilled the day has finally come when we can open the doors and give back the pub to the people of Gisburn - and a much improved one at that!  The support we’ve had to date has been tremendous and I’d like to thank everyone including Nigel and David for their help in campaigning for the changes needed to be made to this wonderful pub to make it successful in the long-term.

“I’ve been very encouraged by the number of people already making bookings for parties and Christmas meals before we even opened the doors.  It just shows how much the village wants and needs a vibrant, welcoming pub that serves good food.”

As you would expect from a Lancashire Young Chef of the Year, North West Young Chef of the Year, Gordon Ramsay Scholar finalist and a Professional Masterchef quarter finalist the standard of the food will be high but it will not be exclusive.  It will be good quality food at affordable prices sourced from local produce suppliers with specials changed on a regular basis.  A Christmas menu will be available from 10th December.

Local campaigner, David Waters, who rallied support behind Star Pubs & Bars proposals to improve the pub said: "The re-opening of the White Bull is excellent news for Gisburn. It will give a real boost to the village not only by providing a place to eat, drink and socialise but also by providing jobs for local people. It's good to see the brewery and the new owners have invested significantly in bringing the pub back to life. I am sure the new look will attract more visitors into the village, which has to be good for our local economy. We wish Susan and Simon well and it's important now that we all support the pub."

ImageNigel Evans MP commented:  “I am delighted to be celebrating the re-opening of the White Bull and the fact that the village once again has a pub at its heart.  I look forward to enjoying many a pint in years to come, made possible by the refurbishment which has created a pub that Simon wants to run and that people will enjoy frequenting.  I wish Simon and his team the best of luck with their exciting venture.”

Chris Jowsey, trading director of Star Pubs & Bars said:  “The re-opening of the White Bull is well worth celebrating…by those who helped campaign for planning permission, by the village that gets its pub back, by Simon who sees his vision become a reality and by Star Pubs & Bars, which has created a fabulous pub.  We’re committed to the long term future of the White Bull, which we believe has real potential. It’s in a lovely location and now has great food and drink and an enthusiastic landlord to take it forward.  It’s going to be a very Happy Christmas for the residents of Gisburn.”
