Star Pubs & Bars Holds Scottish Pub Forum

Six months after taking operational control of 180 Punch pubs in Scotland, Star Pubs & Bars held a forum for licensees from across the country at the Tyneside Stadium in Edinburgh today.

The forum was designed to listen to licensees’ views about their needs and to share best practice, with presentations on industry trends and new sector insight. An accompanying trade exhibition showcased suppliers and provided special offers and business building ideas for Halloween and Christmas. The day ended with an evening social at The Counting House, providing a chance for operators to meet up with others in the trade.

Over 100 people attended the day-long event. Hosted by Star Pubs & Bars operations director for Scotland, Brian Davidson, it included presentations on the latest market intelligence, premiumisation and social media as well as a talk from award-winning operator Nick Livingstone of 7 Saints, Prestwick, on ‘Promotion whilst Protecting Profit.”

Table discussions and formal votes on key issues were a major feature of the day. The results will be collated to give a national perspective on Scottish licensees’ thoughts and concerns. Great retailing ideas and suggestions for new support that Star Pubs & Bars could provide will also be captured. The feedback will be used to refine the existing help Star provides and to create new programmes to meet licensees’ changing needs.

Davidson said: “It was fantastic to have licensees from all four corners of Scotland representing so many different venues gathered together for a day focused on creating outstanding pubs. The support we provide has to add value and, as well as sharing ideas, the forum was an ideal opportunity to hear what licensees want from Star going forward.”
