Rockers boost business

100 metres from the town centre circuit, The Saddle Inn was up against strong weekend competition. All changed when self-confessed rocker, Leigh McLelland and wife Becky took on the pub and introduced Saturday night rock jamming sessions.Trade quadrupled.

Keen to give local bands a head start they hold monthly Sunday night rock auditions. If bands are good they’re booked for Saturday night support slots.  Rockaoke followed increasing Friday night turnover ten times and attracting hen nights and people from the other side of Wales. Leigh explained: “There’s lots of rockers in the area but nowhere to listen to rock. You’ve got to listen to customers, so when they told me I didn’t look the part, I shaved the sides of my head and grew a beard and a ponytail. It’s my wife that’s not happy now!”
