Private Garden Gives Inn The Edge

Dianne Irving of the White Mare, Beckermet has made her award-winning accommodation even better by creating a private garden for guests. A previously unused area is now a pretty courtyard sheltered by two walls of an old outbuilding. It gives the inn a USP and Dianne uses it to generate sales by adding a BBQ and offering BBQ packs.

“People usually stay for two nights and used to eat here one night and go out the other. Now, in good weather, they’ll BBQ on the second evening, keeping their food trade here,” explains Diane. The packs use meat, salad and bread from the restaurant so are easy to make up. A £22 pack serves two to three. Wine and beer coolers complete the package. Guests love the outdoor space and repeat bookings are up since it opened.
