Perfect weddings minus the price tag

Pubs are the ideal venue for inexpensive weddings believes Ed O’Neill of The Crown, Farnham Royal. Ed has 19 weddings booked this year, costing on average £10,000. “That’s half what a wedding venue would charge, and we offer better food and individuality,” explains Ed, who says fair and transparent pricing is vital. There’s no charge for hiring The Crown, the spend just has to equal normal takings. Wedding planning is included, with Ed sharing his contacts from florists to DJs with the bride and groom, saving them hassle. Marquees are marked up 10%; other services are recharged at cost. Whilst many venues stipulate set menus, Ed designs the menu to the couple’s requirements, including a tasting. “People increasingly want relaxed, personal and affordable weddings,” says Ed. “Licensees are perfectly placed to meet this need, whatever kind of pub they have.”
