Not so daft as you might think!

When Peter Evans and Paul Thompson’s BDM Geoff Smith suggested they produce a special ale for the Hastings Arms’s fundraising week for Daft as a Brush charity, they didn’t envisage how popular it would be. The Hastings’ Daft As is now the pub’s signature drink and its second best-selling ale. The pub donates 20p a pint to the charity for the mid-priced beer and still makes a decent profit. “It’s a big money spinner for the charity and reinforces our community image,” says Peter. “Because it’s a light ale, it appeals to all and works well with food. To promote it, we took a photo of the charity’s patron pulling a pint and promoted it on social media. If it’s going to be successful you need to launch it at an event like we did, otherwise it’s just another cask ale.”
