Licensees shine at Star Pub Awards

Star Pubs & Bars hosted its annual Star Pub Awards gala celebration this week in London compered by football legend and broadcaster, Chris Kamara, in recognition of the outstanding achievements of its lessees.

A total of 15 awards were presented with new categories for Best Use of Social Media and Team Training reflecting their importance to the pub trade. The number of finalists was doubled to 90 in response to the high standards of Star Pubs & Bars’ lessees.

Judging was carried out over three months by both Heineken and Star Pubs & Bars’ employees as well as sponsors with special expertise in each category.

“The level of commitment, vision and commercial acumen we saw amongst our lessees is phenomenal. Judging such brilliant operators is humbling but also highly inspirational. With such talented individuals dedicated to the pub industry, it’s hard not to feel there is a very bright future ahead for the great British pub,” says Chris Jowsey, trading director, Star Pubs & Bars.

Notable performances included Martyn and Linda Cripps of the Longboat Inn in Penzance who scooped the Team Training Award, their fourth Star Award. Whilst David King won the prestigious Retailer of the Year Award for his imaginative refurbishment and operation of the City Tavern In Newcastle as well as receiving finalist nominations for Team Training and Best Newcomer of the Year.
