Deck your halls!

Deck your halls!

With Halloween all wrapped up and Guy Fawkes Night finished, it’s time to accept the inevitable and begin your Christmas preparations.

While you should already have started stocking up on non-perishables and hiring the extra staff needed for the festive period, its time to get your house in order decoration-wise. Here are four styles to consider for your bar this Christmas:

Keep it classic

There’s nothing wrong with going traditional. It’s a great way to invoke a sense of nostalgia, while giving your bar a warm and cosy feel. Buy some real pine trees, hang up some soft fairy lights and be sure not to make the place feel too cluttered. Colour-wise stick with reds, golds, silvers and greens. This is a great look for more traditional pubs. If you’re still struggling for inspiration, indulge in some classic films such as White Christmas, Home Alone or Miracle on 34th Street to get your creative juices flowing.

Modern twists

If your bar is a little more modern, reflect it with your decorations. Do away with the tinsel and instead deck your walls with brightly coloured, minimalist ornaments. You could even consider an alternative to a classic Christmas tree. These funky alternatives can be a great talking point so make sure people can find your bar to tag it on social media and spread the word. Use blackboards and business cards to promote your Facebook page, Twitter feed and Instagram account.

Get up-cycling

If you’re working on a budget, fear not, you can always make some unique decorations to stand out from the crowd. Bottle caps can be turned into a number of fun decorations. Check out this page for loads of great ideas, ranging from simple snowmen to intricate wreaths.

Save some wine bottles, buy some paint, glue and fake snow, then watch this video for some inspiration (although you may wish to mute the music). For your tree, beer mats can be turned into a perfect alternative to baubles with nothing more than a hole punch and some string. Encourage staff to flex their creative muscles and offer some ideas too. Some fresh thinking can save you money while setting you apart from your competitors.

Go all out

If you fancy pulling out all the stops, you can use your decorations to attract footfall. Cover the building in lights and put together an exterior display. Santa sleighs, nativity scenes and rope lights that can be set up in custom shapes all work well. If you have any offset rooms, turn them into a fully-fledged Santa’s Grotto. Whatever you go for, think about buying or making things that can be reused in a different form year after year to make your purchase a little more cost efficient. And make sure you let the local media know. These decorations often make for great photos and news stories. A big effort from you will often be rewarded with free publicity.
