Comedy Nights Capture New Market

Comedy nights capture new market

Simon and Kate Swannie, of The Knox, Harrogate decided to host a comedy night when they heard Britain’s Got Talent Jonny Awsum was looking for venues. They’ve since held two more, attracting 70 people each, one featuring Mock the Week’s Gary Delaney. “We hold them quarterly to keep them special,” says Simon. “We wanted to create something different and attract new customers – which we’ve done. The nights also create positive PR as people talk about them.” The key he believes is keeping it simple. Tickets are £7.50 – cheaper than the competition.  Breaks are every 20 minutes as money is made on drinks – ticket revenue just covers the acts. His view is ‘less is more’ with comedy - simple finger food and a theatre style room layout work best. Book talent direct and promote well in advance via the pub and local social media sites including using Facebook ads.
