The Beacon Reopens Following a Major Revamp

The long-awaited reopening of The Beacon pub on Tutbury Road in Burton-on-Trent took place today much to the delight of local residents.

The Beacon, which has been closed since Christmas, was due to open in early April following a £500,000 revamp by Heineken owned Star Pubs & Barsand new business owners, Midlands based The Roseacre Pub Company2. Covid halted the completion of the project, leaving locals to wait for a further four months before having a glimpse of the stunning transformation.

The large new family friendly pub is ideal for social distancing, seating 110 people inside and 200 outside.  Due to its size and the function room being incorporated in the restaurant, capacity only had to be reduced by 25%.  The pub is also able to safely serve a carvery due to the installation of screens around the carvery servery and deployment of one chef to carve meat and another to serve customers.

Outside, in addition to seating at the front of the pub, there is a large fully enclosed beer garden providing a safe environment for children to play in.

The Roseacre Pub Company has put measures in place to ensure customer safety and to meet health & safety guidelines. These include a one-way system, multiple hand sanitisers, greater use of table service, point-of-sale to remind customers about social distancing, single use menus, an enhanced cleaning regime, Covid safety staff training and Covid-safe certification by independent hospitality experts, Food Safety Guru.

Roseacre Pub Company, Managing Director, Michael Thomas says: “We’re really excited to be opening at last and are looking forward to welcoming local Burton on Trent residents across the threshold.  We first started talking about taking on the Beacon in September, so it’s been a long haul, but it is well worth the wait.  It is now a stunning pub with some great local publicans, Ian and Sally Lowe at the helm.  Having made a success of The Anglesea Arms, they’re ideal for The Beacon.

“Having already opened eight other pubs following lockdown, we’re well-versed in creating safe places in which to socialise offering top quality, good value food whilst retaining a great atmosphere. Given the level of interest on social media about the reopening of The Beacon, we recommend booking to avoid disappointment.”

The Beacon will open from 12-11 six days a week and from 12-10.30 on Sundays.

The menu at The Beacon will feature traditional pub food done to a high standard using fresh seasonal local produce wherever possible.  The dishes will include a wide selection of burgers, pizza & pasta, steaks & grills, fish & seafood and a great Sunday carvery.

The pub will also serve barista style coffee, pastries and cake, with a 100% speciality grade Arabica coffee supplied by Sheffield based Forge Roasters.

Ian and Sally are looking forward to introducing monthly quizzes once they’re able to do so.

Helen Fingland, Star Pubs & Bars Regional Operations Director said: “The Beacon’s refurbishment has made it ideal for the socially distanced world we’re now living in.  It is a fantastic family friendly pub, and with more people eating and drinking locally I am sure it will be a real success.  I wish Ian and Sally and The Roseacre Pub company well and a great summer ahead.”
